Country info (list) - General notes - Border crossings

When you have these, the AAS will endorse-stamp the rear of the carnet sheet which is to be used for entry to and exit from Singapore.

The AAS will then give you a slip of paper with the address and contact person in the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

Go back to Somerset MRT station. There is a good supermarket on Killiney Road, for any lunch you may require. There are also many restaurants on this road.

From Somerset MRT, go to Ang Mo Kio MRT station (NS16).

From Ang Mo Kio, it's a 15 minute walk to the LTA office. From the MRT, go west on Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, then left onto Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, continue into Marymount Road, right into Sin Ming Avenue, left into Sin Ming Drive, and the LTA office is on the left at the end of this road before the sharp 90-degree bend.

Find the guy on the slip of paper you were given at the AAS.

In Singapore, you need an AutoPass card. (See "country info" section.) I already had one, so am not sure if you would purchase one here. However, what is sure is that things are unsure here. Officially, you should swipe your AutoPass card on entry to Singapore at the border. However, the "guys upstairs in the LTA" tell you to just call in on your last day in Singapore, and pay for that last day. This is opposite to the understanding of the "guys on the counters downstairs".

Note that you DO NOT PAY FOR WEEKEND DRIVING IN SINGAPORE. The overhead gantries and the VEP system are inoperative. So if you adjust your itinerary, you can avoid charges.

This is what I did. If you intend to be travelling on weekdays, make sure the "upstairs guys" tell the "counter guys" what you are going to be doing.

From the LTA, it's back to Ang Mo Kio MRT, back to Marsiling MRT, back onto the #170 bus (which accepts the Ez-card), and back to JB. It will have been a long day.

Throughout the day, everybody you'll have met will have been friendly and helpful. It's only your wallet which will have been mugged.

Malaysia (Time to process: 30 minutes)

Enter Immigration, which is cleared while in your vehicle.

After immigraiton, continue with the traffic towards the Causeway, stopping just before the covered customs area in the two yellow-marked parking bays on the LHS.

To have your Carnet stamped, you need to go to the customs office on the Malaysia-entry side. As this requires going through non-public areas, a customs official should take you. They may not know initially where you need to go, so tell him.

Carnet stamped, it's back to the vehicle and cross the Causeway.
